FASHION FILM was a screening of inspiring and intelligent fashion films from around the world in Melbourne 2012 and the Australian premier of the Corinne Day Diary documentary. Curated and Produced by Sophie Pike and Nicole Lily Rose.
With the aim of celebrating the fashion film, the programme looks at the bizarre, confronting and creative ways fashion was represented on film in 2011.
FASHIONFILM is proud to announce the premiere screening of “Corinne Day Diary,” directed by Mark Szaszy, the boyfriend of the late photographer Corinne Day. With her recent passing, this screening makes for an especially significant milestone for the director, as it was in 1987 Melbourne that Szaszy first courted Corinne and taught her to use a camera. Shot over a period of ten years, the documentary explores the life of the British fashion photographer forever connected to the ascent and success of Kate Moss – not to mention the heroine-chic image. In fact, the earliest content captured on film is a segment of super 8 footage featuring Moss at just 15 years-old.
The programme also features a unique duel screening of two films by Dutch fashion photographer Erwin Olaf; a ManiaMania clip featuring Australian supermodel Abby Lee by British born, NYC based photographer Barnaby Roper (i-D, Dazed & Confused, British Vogue); a vision of LA though the lens of cult, cultural figure Aaron Rose; an interview with fashion blogger Diane Pernet and stylist Catherine Baba; plus a film for Lover by Kasia Werstak starring Sophie Lowe; a playful piece by Justin Anderson for Damaris, and works by Lucy McRae, Kris Moyes, Jacob Sutton, Susie Q & Leo Siboni, Fumiko Imano, Igor Zimmermann Marcus Palmqvist & Frode Fjerdingstad, Gen Kay, Elle Muliarchyk and more.
